BVSc CertSAS DipECVS MRCVS
RCVS Specialist in Small Animal Surgery and EBVS® European Specialist in Small Animal Surgery
Surgery is a moment in a patient's life where a small team works right at the interface between biology, injury, disease and medical technology - the details matter. The focus: appropriate, safe, effective intervention and aftercare, whichever part of the body is involved.
To achieve this, Ian draws on his 24 years experience as a Vet, then completed further training at the Royal Veterinary College and The University of Cambridge. He achieved EBVS European Specialist Small Animal Surgeon and RCVS Specialist Small Animal Surgeon status in 2011 and has reaccredited these qualifications every 5 years since, working hard to keep at the top of his profession. As a Specialist, Ian has worked in University teaching hospitals, private multi-disciplinary specialist referral hospitals and first-opinion/referral practices. He has trained residents and mentored certificate candidates, taught undergraduates and graduates alike and presented and published clinical papers internationally. He has established a clinical research network, the ARC, giving rise to bigger, more relevant studies, helping surgeons make informed choices by reliable scientific data. Since 2017, Ian has helped build and expand a first opinion/Specialist referral RCVS-recognised Veterinary Hospital on the Isle of Wight, providing a first-class facility for the benefit of all. Over the same period he has helped to expand Optivet Referrals into the busy multi-disciplinary specialist referral hospital it is today!
Outside work Ian spends time with his family around, on and sometimes under, the waters of the Hamble and Solent. He also enjoys all ball sports.
